Stroke

A Cerebrovascular accident (CVA) or stroke is defined as an interruption to cerebral blood flow, as a result of either a haemorrhage or a blockage in a vessel. Stroke can lead to a variety of signs and symptoms including deficits in motor, sensory, cognitive and language functions. Rehabilitation following a stroke is frequently prolonged and complex.

The main goal of physiotherapy is to optimise movement patterns to achieve efficient and safe mobility within the home environment and community. The physiotherapist will address balance and postural stability and assist selective activity in different areas of the body to refine and improve the necessary components of walking.
